Agastya to build 12-GW solar materials plant in India
Abstract
The INR7,800-crore expansion will add ingot and wafer capacity to its operations.
India’s Agastya Green Energy will invest INR7,800 crore to build 12 gigawatts each of integrated ingot and wafer manufacturing capacity in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh.
The project at the Orvakal Industrial Area will expand the company’s existing solar cell and module manufacturing operations, creating an integrated photovoltaic manufacturing chain from ingots and wafers to cells and modules.
Agastya Energy expects the project to create more than 3,500 jobs. The company said the expansion will increase domestic value addition across its solar manufacturing operations.
“The expansion into Ingot and Wafer manufacturing marks a critical upstream pillar of Agastya Energy’s integrated solar manufacturing strategy,” said Piyush Bichhoriya, Director at Agastya Energy.

The project will also create synergies across the company’s manufacturing, independent power producer, and engineering, procurement, and construction businesses.
The project comes as India strengthens its solar manufacturing framework, including the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s ALMM List III for solar PV modules, cells, and wafers.
Agastya Energy said the facility aligns with India’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat priorities.
